POSITION TITLE: Menu Planner Supervisor
LOCATION: School Nutrition Services
REPORTS TO: Director of School Nutrition
WORK WEEK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday

WORK HOURS: 8:00 AM - 4: 30 PM; Occasional evenings and weekends

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

SALARY GRADE: Grade 69

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt

 

 

 

Nature of Work

 

Employee will supervise staff in the School Nutrition Department at various schools within Craven County Schools.  Duties involve supervision of staff, staff training, and menu planning.  Employee in this position will also maintain the Unique Meal Needs documentation for students within Craven County Schools.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                                       

  • Supervise various schools; assisting with staffing, training, supporting and other needs that arise.
  • Plan menu using current USDA Guidelines for the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and After School Snack Program. Work with menu planning team to develop and test menu options that are appealing to students. Analyze menu using the Titan software to ensure options meet USDA nutritional requirements for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program.
  • Work with the SHAC (School Health Advisory Committee) to ensure USDA regulations are followed regarding the sale of food and beverages during the school day.
  • Conduct efficiency studies on various areas in the school cafeterias to ensure efficiency is being maximized.
  • Maintains students Unique Mealtime Needs documentation and work with school nurses and cafeteria managers to ensure that students with unique mealtime needs are handled in a safe manner.
  • Oversees completion of Supervisor’s on-site review forms, civil rights training/documentation and all other DPI and USDA requirements.
  • Coordinates and updates the Emergency & Disaster Preparedness
  • Assists Nutrition Services Director with compliance of state and federal guidelines.
  • Assist with developing, updating and maintaining standard operating procedures and processes for emergencies due to power, gas, electricity, etc. using the guidance set by the state and local Health Departments.
  • Assist procurement supervisor with planning the use of space and equipment, helps determine needs for current and future equipment.
  • Maintains nutrition services point of sale
  • Maintains and updates hardware and software for the front of house point of sale system and back of house revenue and meal counting software.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Nutrition Services and Nutrition Supervisors to meet federal and state nutrition services guidelines.
  • Provides excellent customer service to students, staff, visitors and the general public.
  • Completes any other assignments/duties requested by the Director of School Nutrition.

 

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree required, with experience in School Nutrition.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Service Management, Business or related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience or a combination of education and experience will be accepted.
  • A background in public school nutrition programs preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform e?ectively in the position may be

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
  • Hold and maintain certification in food service sanitation or obtain certification within three months of hire.

 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in computers and computer software
  • Experience in K-12 Nutrition program operations and/or large volume dining Fundamental understanding of local, state, and federal regulations governing Child Nutrition Programs (National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program)

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to use a variety of o?ce and cafeteria equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and food preparation equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to fifty pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are mostly sedentary with occasional moderately heavy work.
  • Must be able to work in an office and food preparation environment and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, external agencies, vendors, parents, and be able to travel within Craven County when required.
